Overnight Camp

Both Adventure and Base Camp went extremely well this year. The campers were very excited to be at camp and were challenged learning new skills and developing leadership and teamwork.

Base Camp is for Racine and Kenosha 4-Hers in grades 3-5. High School Counselors help to lead activities under the supervision of adult chaperones.  The base campers stay at Wisconsin 4-H camp Upham Woods for three days and two nights. During that time the campers were kept busy with campfires, camp olympics, camp skits and awards. They all helped out with camp chores such as setting the table, or raising and lowering the flag.

This year’s participants were: Hayden A., Michael A., Megan B., Alyson B., Sarah C., Caleb D., Cody D., Caleb D., Anna Mae D., Cole D., Alexander D., Alyssa D., Joel D., James D., Daniel D., Justin E., Kevin E., Francesca F., Adam G., Eric H., Elizabeth H., Abbie H., Steven K., Katie K., Nyah K., Amanda L., Jacob M., Douglas M., Faith N., Kourtney P., Abigail P., Joey S., Parker S., Taylor S., and Olivia S.. A special thanks goes to the adult chaperones: Jason Dobbs, Louise Paul, Bethany Kitzrow, John DeMontmollin, Charlene Karls, and Sally Garrett.

Adventure camp is for 4-Hers in grades 6-8. This year’s 29 participants from Racine and Kenosha counties included: Molly A., Breanna A., Madelynn B., Meredith B., Katie B., Nathan C., Hunter C., Shannon D., Adam D., Ryan D., Zach F., Megan G., Ryan G., Krystle H., Paxton H., Coby K., Kaylee L., Kimberly L., Jesse M., Ellie M., Jera M., Quientin N., Maria R., Sidni S., Madeline S., Mira T., Steven T., Daniel W., Allison W. A special thanks goes to Mary Jane Andersen, Alexis Noll, Linda Lueder, Tom Green, and Tracy Strother for chaperoning.

At Adventure camp this year, the campers spent part of the time at Camp Upham Woods and part of the time at Devil’s Lake. They were individually challenged in activities like rock climbing and challenged in group activities like canoeing. The campers learned more about respecting nature as they went on hikes and enjoyed the earth’s beauty. Teamwork was another skill that also developed as the campers set-up tents together and participated in fun low ropes course activities with their small group. Cooking dinner over a fire and learning to embrace differences made this “the best experience yet” for many youth. All of the campers came back with great memories and new friends.
